High School Diploma or GED.

Have a Bachelor's degree in education and courses in library science.

Master's degree in library and information science.

May work part time or full time. Most work full time.

Generally work a set schedule.

May work evenings and weekends.

May work ten months per year as a school librarian.

LIBRARIANS will:

Have a good eye for detail.

Have exceptional computer skills.

Be well organized.

Have good communication skills.

LIBRARIANS frequently:

Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Sit at desks or stand at counters while working.

Repeat the same movements.

It is important that LIBRARIANS be able to:

See details of objects whether they are nearby or far away.

Understand the speech of another person.

Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
