Work indoors most of the time. Often work outdoors when accompanying patients on walks and activities.
PSYCHIATRIC AIDES will:
work in hospitals and institutions
care for clients who are mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed
PSYCHIATRIC AIDES frequently:
provide clients with much of their basic care. For example, psychiatric aides help clients eat, dress, and bathe.
accompany clients to and from examinations and treatments.
It is important that PSYCHIATRIC AIDES be able to:
measure and record clients' temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure accurately
work with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses, and social workers
deal with patients who may be irritable or uncooperative on a daily basis.
have good communication skills
