Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Complete Formal Training Program
  • Hours

  • Generally have a set schedule each week.
  • May work part time or full time, but most work 40 hours a week.
  • May work days, evenings, or weekends.
  • PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIANS will:
  • Provide nursing, psychiatric, and personal care for clients.
  • Fill out admissions forms when new clients arrive.
  • Interview new clients and their families.
  • PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIANS frequently:
  • Help develop therapy treatment plans and act as leaders in group counseling sessions.
  • Teach clients basic living and working skills.
  • It is important that PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIANS be able to:
  • Observe clients and write reports about their behavior.
  • Check clients' temperature, respiration, and pulse, accurately.
  • Keep daily records of the physical condition of clients.
  • Have good communication skills; and
  • work well under pressure.
