May work full time or part time, but most work 40 hours a week.

VETERINARY ASSISTANTS will:
Assist veterinarians in clinics and research labs
Perform basic procedures, such as drawing blood or running tests
Deal with animal owners as much as they deal with animals
Often wear safety gear, such as masks and gloves
VETERINARY ASSISTANTS frequently:
Stand while assisting in surgery or with exams.
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Walk or run while exercising animals.
Bend or twist their body.
Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
Repeat the same movements.
It is important that VETERINARY ASSISTANTS be able to:
See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
Understand the speech of another person.
Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
