have a high school diploma or GED

have at least a bachelor's degree in engineering

have experience as an engineer

be self-confident and persuasive

be able to direct and motivate people

have strong technical and communication skills

Work more than 40 hours during a regular business week.

May weekends or evenings to meet project deadlines.

ENGINEERING MANAGERS will:

use advanced technical skills to oversee many types of projects.

propose budgets and timelines for completing projects.

oversee the purchase of new equipment and the redesign of old equipment.

Often work overtime to meet deadlines

ENGINEERING MANAGERS frequently:

set goals and establish policies and work procedures for meeting those goals

Oversee the planning and building of roads, structures, and products

monitor and test the quality of finished products.

It is important that ENGINEERING MANAGERS be able to:

talk and negotiate

make decisions about the money and staff needed to complete projects.

be highly accurate in performing their job. They coordinate many activities that have technical and time constraints
