Education

To work as an auto body repairer, you must:
  • have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Complete a formal training program; and
  • complete on-the-job training.
  • Hours

  • Work more than 40 hours per week.

  • Are physically active on the job
  • AUTO BODY REPAIRERS frequently:
  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend and twist while working.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • It is important that AUTO BODY REPAIRERS be able to:
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
  • Use hands or fingers to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away, such as when reading technical manuals.
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
  • Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.
  • Determine the distance between objects.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness when matching paint.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
