Education

To work as a dispatcher, you must:
  • complete a high school diploma or GED;
  • complete on-the-job training;
  • have good communications skills; and
  • work well under stress.
  • Hours

  • Generally work 40 hours per week.
  • May work evenings, weekends, and holidays, if working as an emergency vehicle dispatcher.
  • DISPATCHERS will:
  • Coordinate the movement of workers and motor vehicles
  • Some direct the activity of emergency vehicles
  • Use computers, phones, and two-way radios
  • DISPATCHERS frequently:
  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
