To work as a motorboat mechanic, you must:
have a high school diploma or GED;
complete a formal training program, usually an associate’s degree in Small Engines;
complete on-the-job training.
Usually work 40 hours a week. They often work fewer hours in the winter.
May travel to docks and marinas.
MOTORBOAT MECHANICS will:
Work on portable outboard motors in a repair shop
Work on inboard motors at the dock or marina
Use a variety of tools and equipment
Use a variety of tools and equipment
MOTORBOAT MECHANICS frequently:
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Stand or walk when testing and making repairs.
Bend or twist their body.
Repeat the same movements
It is important that MOTORBOAT MECHANICS be able to:
Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
Use hands or fingers to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
Determine the distance between objects.
Understand the speech of another person.
Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.
