Most electricians learn their skill through apprenticeship training programs. Apprenticeship programs consist of four years of on-the-job training.
Paid for time spent on the job. In addition, each year you receive at least 144 hours of classroom training.
Usually work 40 hours per week/may work overtime to meet deadlines.
May work nights, weekends, and be on-call, if working as a maintenance electrician.
Frequently travel to new job sites, if working as a construction electrician.
ELECTRICIANS will:
Read and interpret blueprints.
May work nights, weekends, or on-call.
ELECTRICIANS frequently:
Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
It is important that ELECTRICIANS be able to:
React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
Choose quickly and correctly among various movements when responding to different signals.
