Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate or bachelor's degree
  • Master's or doctoral (Ph.D.) degree
  • Most fashion designers learn their skills in formal training programs. Over 100 professional-technical schools and two- or four-year colleges offer programs in fashion design. You could also get a degree in art or fine art.

    Hours

  • May work part time or full time
  • May work long hours, especially during production deadlines or before a fashion show
  • May be required to travel around the U.S. and overseas to production sites
